Allosaurus war einer der größten Raubdinosaurier (Theropoden) der 
späten Jurazeit; die Gattung konnte Längen von bis zu 10 m erreichen, 
der hier ausgestellte Schädelabguss repräsentiert ein Tier von etwa 7–8 m Länge. Wie die meisten Raubdinosaurier bewegte sich Allosaurus zweibeinig auf den kräftigen Hinterbeinen fort, während die kurzen, aber ebenfalls kräftigen Arme mit einer dreifingrigen, mit großen Krallen bewehrten Hand wohl hauptsächlich dazu da war, Beutetiere zu halten. Allosaurus ist der bei weitem häufigste Raubdinosaurier im oberen Jura Nordamerikas, 
kam aber auch auf der Iberischen Halbinsel in Europa vor.

Allosaurus was one of the largest predatory dinosaurs (Theropoda) from the Late Jurassic. They could reach lengths of about 10 m, the skull cast shown here represents an animal of approximately 7–8 m length. 
As most predatory dinosaurs, Allosaurus walked bipedally on strong hindlimbs, whereas the forelimbs were short, but also strong and the three-fingered hand with its large claws probably was mainly used to seize prey. Allosaurus is the by far most abundant predatory dinosaur in the Late 
Jurassic of North America, but also occurred in Europe on the Iberian 
Peninsula.
